Eiichiro Oda puts fan speculation about Sanji’s shifting eyebrows to rest with a definitive answer to one of the manga’s most recent mysteries.
Sanji’s famously curly eyebrows are moving in recent One Piece chapters, and now fans are aware of the reason.
In a report by Anime Dork, One Piece creator Eiichiro Oda has recently spoken out about the Straw Hat cook’s brow changes and confirmed that the shift in design is intentional and significant within the character’s arc. Sanji’s right eyebrow had been spiraling at the outer end of the series. However, chapter 1031 witnessed its shift to the inner part like his Germa66 siblings. In chapter 1044, Sanji’s brow was back to its normal position, much to the dismay of some readers, however, Oda has cleared this up by explaining that the spiral is the result of Sanji’s greater transformation during his battle against Queen, which triggered the awakening of his latent superhuman abilities.

Audiences learn the story of Sanji was born into the Vinsmoke Judge family. His father carried out experiments on his kids to transform them into super soldiers. Both Sanji and One Piece fans believed that Sanji did not possess the powers he had acquired through transplantation as well as the emotional numbness that came with the same. However, Sanji was able to unleash these powers during his battle with Queen the Beast Pirate’s main character in the way depicted in the anime. Sanji’s character changed too as he became more brutal and colder than his siblings. This was evident in Sanji’s battle with S-Shark during the ongoing Egghead Island anime arc.
Sanji may be able to provide more
Eagle-eyed fans noticed Sanji’s brow change by his personality while fighting the Jimbe Seraphim, highlighting Oda’s assertion about the reasoning behind the design changes. As Luffy’s appearance changes when he uses Gear powers to enhance his appearance, Sanji’s eyebrow may be a visual indicator that the Straw Hat chef is using his Germa 66 abilities. Despite this significant change in Sanji’s mental state, Oda has encouraged readers to stay attentive to Sanji’s story, indicating there may still be more to learn about the character before the series concludes.
