Bob Iger, Disney CEO has confirmed that an updated roster of Avengers will be available in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
This change was made to Earth’s Mightiest Heroes by Iger, speaking at the Morgan Stanley Technology, Media, and Telecom Conference. Iger began by saying there’s nothing wrong with Marvel’s brand, but Disney “just has to look at which characters and stories it’s mining” for future projects. “There will be a lot more newness if you look at Marvel’s future five years,” he said. “We’re going back to the Avengers series with a whole different set of Avengers. Iger did not name any characters on the new roster.

Already, the MCU has a history of introducing major changes. Stephen Broussard, an executive at Marvel Studios, had previously spoken out about the subject. He stated that he believed one of the meta-narratives of Phase 4 was focused primarily on newer characters passing on their mantles. Broussard said, “Look at Cassie [Lang Quantumania] getting her suit and Kate Bishop [in Hawkeye], there are new characters such as Jack in Werewolf by Night.” Torches are being passed in Marvel storytelling after 10 years. Robert Downey Jr. has been removed from the table and things like that. This was a kind of new generation coming to the fore, something that has always occurred in comics.
