James Gunn, DC Studios’ Co-CEO, gave his short review of Shazam! Fury of Gods.
Gunn posted a tweet about the DC Universe sequel, “I love it,” Gunn wrote. He also praised the film’s cast and crew, including Rachel Zegler and Zachary Levi, as well as director David F. Sandberg.

As of this writing, Shazam’s future is still unclear in the DCU. However, Sandberg stated that the future appearances of the character will depend on the performance of Fury of the Gods. He stated that there is always the possibility of Shazam appearing in more films. If you’re interested, it is worth going to see the film. The upcoming sequel is currently expected to be the highest-grossing debut in the DC Extended Universe with an opening of $35 million. These numbers could change as the film is released closer to release. Sandberg confirmed that Fury of the Gods will not interfere with Gunn or Peter Safran’s plans for the DCU if the character does not return.

DC Studios has not yet announced any sequels to Fury of the Gods, or other projects that could involve Shazam. This leaves some to speculate about Shazam’s future. What to Expect from Fury of the Gods
Fury of the Gods wrapped filming in September 2021. However, it was reported that the film had been through major edits ordered and approved by Gunn. This was a rumor Sandberg later disproved. The sequel to 2019’s Shazam! will feature returning cast members Levi, Asher Angel, and Billy Batson as Shazam. Following shakeups at DC Studios (now headed by Gunn Safran and Peter Safran), rumors circulated that Levi would not return as Shazam in future DCU films. Levi stated at the time, “Ooooooh, I wouldn’t believe everything you see online.”

The Fury of the Gods cast also includes Jack Dylan Grazer and DjimonHounsou. Faithe Herman and Jovan Armand will return to their roles as adult Shazam forms. Adam Brody and Ross Butler, D. J. Cotrona, Meagan Good, and D. J. Cotrona will also be returning. Fury of the Gods welcomes new villains, the Daughters of Atlas. These include Zegler as Anthea and Helen Mirren as the demigod Hespera and Lucy Liu for Kalypso.
Shazam! Fury of the Gods will be in theaters on March 17, 2023.
