Super Nintendo World focuses only on Mario but Shigeru Mishimoto says there was a discussion about Splatoon.
Super Nintendo World is now open at Universal Studios Hollywood. Although it’s an amazing experience to step through a warp pipe and into a land dominated by Mario, it’s also known as Super Nintendo World. Mario, the face of Nintendo is no surprise.

Game Rant had a group interview with Shinya Tahashi and Shigeru Miyamoto at Super Nintendo World in Hollywood. They asked them why Nintendo chose to put this Mario emphasis. While there are a few hidden secrets throughout the theme park, such as a Pikmin illustration, most of it is Mario.
Miyamoto admitted that there was a slight discrepancy between Super Nintendo World and Mario’s World.
“There was some discussion about adding another IP like Splatoon. But instead of being scattered we felt it would be better to have something focussed and make something that is good and quality. Mario was the one we chose to start with.
Splatoonis one of the most popular Nintendo IPs. Imagine what it would look like at an interactive theme park. While some Nintendo fans may want to see Zelda Pokemon, and Pikmin get similar treatments, others like Zelda or Animal Crossing are also being considered. However, the original idea was to focus on Mario. Mario has appeared on almost every Nintendo console. It makes sense that he would be the face of a theme park. Many Nintendo fans want other Nintendo IPs to get the same treatment.

Nintendo or Universal Studios might one day integrate elements from Spltoon into Super Nintendo World locations around the world. Super Nintendo World offers a lot of potential expansion. However, nothing is yet confirmed. Super Nintendo World Japan has a Donkey Kong extension. This will feature a roller coaster and food. Similar attractions would be welcomed at Hollywood’s location, although it may be more difficult due to differences in size (the Hollywood land area is slightly smaller than Osaka). However, it makes sense, to begin with, Mario and work towards expanding the park down the road.
Super Nintendo World is currently open.
